B&H 4 draw with Args.

The fourth team managed to keep their second division hopes alive last night by holding the Args. to a dramatic draw in spite of an overwhelming grading difference. Anthony (135) drew with Peter Farr (179) on top board and Kevin (117) beat Jim Graham (156) on board three. Joe and Arthur on boards two and four were also out-graded by nearly 40 points. We're now in a three-way fight to avoid relegation with two home matches still to go.

4th Team Progress

A fine result for the 4th team recently - a draw against E. Grinstead 1 (current division 2 leaders) in spite of an average 14 point grading disadvantage. In particular, our boards 1 and 2 (Brian Izzard and Hussaini Ndakwo) both drew against opponents graded 30 points higher.

4th Team Success

A resounding 4-1 win for the 4th team v. Uckfield 1 on 29th November ends our run of losses. Brian Izzard's unfinished game (as black, with a knight outpost in enemy territory and a king-side pawn majority) v. Gerry Michaud on board 1 was adjudicated in Brian's favour. A notable success against a player graded 30 points higher. Well done everybody.

Exciting finishes

Congratulations to the first team on proving to be the best and coming top of the Mid-Sussex League.

We have two matches left, both to be played tonight: the fourth team, playing away, are already assured of promotion to the second division, and the second team only need to beat Woodpushers 2 at home this evening to make it into the first division next season - no pressure! So many congrats to the fourth team on the success of a very determined effort and best of luck tonight for the second team. With a bit of luck, and an extra team, we will be back to two teams in each division next season. (I can't, unfortunately, make it tonight so perhaps someone could blog the result?)

Also big congrats to our talented nipper Callum who took part in the England Squad Trials at the weekend; he didn't just win a place on the U11 England Team, he came joint 2nd! He has already been booked for two fixtures and is very excited!!

hi all, carl here. i'd like to say a massive thankyou to the members of team 4 who turned out last night to face the strongest team that hastings 3 have put out so far this season. despite being heavily outgraded on several boards, b+h tm4 won the match 3-2 with 2 draws and 2 wins! so, a big thanks to martin roe, callum brewer, anthony stanton, and kevin gee. this result puts us top of division 3 and gives us a great chance to go on and win promotion to division 2. well done!!

mscl div3 / horsham 5 v. b+h tm4

hi all, carl here. team 4 played a match versus horsham 5 on monday. the result was a draw, 2.5 to 2.5. in grading terms this result may be seen as a little disapointing, but i have to say the horsham team played very well. nerves on both sides were jangling with the score on 2 wins each, the last board to come in being an agreed draw in a very double edged position. i'd like to thank aurthur, robin, kevin and bob for making the effort to play in an away match on a cold, wet and dark night. well done and big thanks.
