Keeping captains happy

4.2.2 Whether nominated or not, a player from a lower team may appear on a match score card 3 times for higher teams while retaining his eligibility to play for the lower team. Upon appearing on a match score card a 4th time for any higher team the player becomes ineligible to play for the lower team.                                       see Rules MSCL
Now that the season is well underway please keep track of your own match appearances as it's not always easy for captains to know whether you will still be eligible for their team by the day of the match. Don't leave it all to them!! This also applies to any other help you can give them on the day - remember: no captains, no teams! So keep your captain happy. Thanks.

Successes past and present

To untangle the picture quiz and clues (see below):
  1. Geoff
  2. 1961 Geoff, 1965 and 1966 Brian
  3. Brian
  4. Brian
  5. Geoff
  6. Geoff
  7. Geoff
  8. Brian Young c.1939 - 1985. But you have to have been around the Brighton chess scene a very long time for this one as he emigrated to Australia in 1963.
Bringing us up to date - a very good e2e4 at the weekend with the inevitable ups and downs of fortune. Amongst he lucky ones were Dona on 4 and Rob and Terry, both on 3, who all won prizes - see e2e4 results - congratulations to them and to others who played their socks off without a mention, particularly Ezra in the Open and Mustapha and Oli in the Major who also finished on 3.

Mysterious Players in '62

I reckon Geoffrey James and Brian Denman are Two of these three individuals. Geoffrey is perhaps a little easier to recognise. Brian must have been quite young when this was taken. He is perhaps 4-5 years younger than Geoffrey here.
